Santa Cruz
While Snap Cubby grew up a few hours south in San Luis Obispo, its founder and owner grew up in the amazing and quirky beach town of Santa Cruz. Some of the last old-fashioned mechanical photo booths in California used to be found in the arcade of the famous Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. These majestic machines were referred to in the photography industry as “dip and dunk” photo booths for their mechanical way of dipping and dunking true photographic paper in a series of chemical containers hidden behind the walls to process the photo strips taken in the booth. Even though there are still some true dip and dunk photo booths in operation throughout the world, the ones at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk have sadly been replaced by ugly-looking digital versions that bare little resemblance to their retro ancestor.
With its sturdy brushed aluminum framing, beautiful finished wood walls, and a plush red velvet upholstered interior, our modern photo booths still carry the same nostalgic feeling of the original machines, but with a whole new twist. Packed with best quality professional cameras, printers, and lighting, Snap Cubby can create super fun photos that will last a lifetime. We can even mix in video now!
